2016 WSIB Statistical Report: Leading Workplace Injury Characteristics

The WSIB codes the injury details of a claim using the National Work Injuries Statistics Program coding standard. This standard is based on the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Z795-96 codes which allows for more detailed recording of injuries by breaking them into four categories: nature of injury, source, event and art of body.

For both Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 employers, Sprains and Strains, are still the most prevalent type of injury and for Schedule 1 employers the most likely event, or cause, is overexertion - which directly speaks to an ergonomic issue!
