Buy-In: Justifying the Cost of Ergonomics

MSD injuries are still the number one injury in Ontario workplaces; more than 40% of workplace injuries are MSDs. As an employer, there is an inherent need to provide your workers with a safe and healthy work environment to prevent injury and disability – so why is it so hard to get buy-in for ergonomic initiatives? Partly because we don’t do a great job of calculating and communicating the Return on Investment for ergonomic initiatives in a way that shows how financially beneficial an ergonomic change can be.

Understanding how ergonomic initiatives can be financially beneficial for a company and knowing how to convey that message to management is important. Such initiatives have a huge potential to have a positive Return on Investment (ROI), and really just need to be “afforded” the opportunity to show what they can do.
